In early 2020, the COVID-19 disease caused by the SARS-COV-2 virus was identified as a novel coronavirus originating from Wuhan, China. Since then, the disease has spread on a large scale, representing a public health emergency of global importance. In Mexico, the COVID-19 disease had a serious impact due to the susceptibility of the population with comorbidities. In the case of children, the incidence is much lower compared to adults; however, serious disease also occurs in them, registering deaths in this age group in our country. Faced with this problem, it is necessary to expand the information on the associated risk factors that can promote the development of severe disease by SARS-COV-2, and to investigate the long-term effects that could affect infants who have presented the disease.
