Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are transmitted through sexual contact in any modality: anal, oral, or vaginal. They are frequently asymptomatic (50%) and can lead to various complications, including upper genital tract infections, chronic pelvic disease, infertility, and chronic diseases such as hepatitis or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The goal is to identify and treat all infected patients before they develop complications and also to treat their sexual partners to prevent infection.
