Pancreatic pseudocysts are fluid accumulations surrounded by non-epithelial inflammatory tissue. They occur as a complication of acute, chronic, post-traumatic, or post-surgical pancreatitis. Complications are usually suspected when there is persistent or recurring abdominal pain, late elevation of serum pancreatic enzymes, increased or worsening organ failure, and/or sepsis.
The case of a 41-year-old man diagnosed with acute necrotizing pancreatitis with the presence of a pancreatic pseudocyst is reported. The onset of the condition was abdominal pain, nausea, and persistent vomiting.
Pancreatic pseudocysts are a challenging clinical entity associated with multiple etiological factors and lead to significant complications in patients.
A timely diagnosis is achieved through a history, in addition to imaging studies, including computed tomography, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging.
The patient's evolution over time reflects the importance of an interdisciplinary approach, combining endoscopic, surgical, and clinical techniques to address this complication of pancreatitis.
