The role of epidemiology in medical training and its impact on practice

Interviewee: Dr. María Elena Reguera Torres. She holds a general practitioner degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and a Master's degree in Public Health with a focus on epidemiology from the National Institute of Public Health. Professional experience: From 1978 to 1980, she participated in a UNICEF project in the Santa Fe landfills in Mexico City. From 1980 to 1986, she worked at the Ministry of Health in a program for marginalized areas in Santa Úrsula Coapa, Mexico City. From 1986 to 2011, she worked in state health services in Hermosillo, Sonora. From 2009 to 2018, she served as head of the medical social service, and from 2008 to the present, she has served as a full-time professor in the Department of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Sonora, Hermosillo Campus.
