Abstract

Thyroid cancer is one of the most common endocrine neoplasias worldwide. Despite their high survival rate, is worrying that his incidence has increased in recent decades. The most common forms of this cancer include papillary carcinoma, follicular, oncocytic, medullary, and the aggressive anaplastic carcinoma. Although conventional treatments such as surgery and radioactive iodine, between 7% and 23% of patients may develop therapy-resistant metastases. In this context, nanomedicine emerges as an innovative therapeutic strategy. This review analyzed recent literature on nanoparticles applied to the treatment of thyroid cancer, demonstrating their efficacy in improving drug bioavailability, reducing adverse effects, and facilitating the controlled release of therapeutic agents. Formulations such as nanoemulsions, liposomes, nanocapsules, and hybrid nanoparticles show great potential in tumor targeting. Furthermore, emerging technologies such as photothermal therapy leverage its optical properties to induce the selective destruction of malignant cells. Nanomedicine represents a promising and highly targeted approach to optimize thyroid cancer treatment and overcome the limitations of traditional therapies.
