Introduction: Bibliometric analysis allows for the collection and processing of massive and objective information regarding academic production, thus establishing itself as a key tool for evaluating scientific productivity, research trends, institutional collaborations, and knowledge gaps.
Objective: To analyze the state of scientific production on pediatric topics in the Gaceta Médica Estudiantil.
Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional bibliometric study analyzed 18 pediatric articles published (2020-2023), excluding supplements, where variables such as article type, institutional affiliation, author characteristics, and studied population (0-18 years) were examined, utilizing publicly accessible data collected manually until June 2024.
Results: Of the 18 pediatric articles analyzed, 61.1% were original articles (n=11), with publications from 2021 predominating, although they represented less than 25% of the total annual production. Educational institutions were the main affiliations (with the University of Medical Sciences of Guantánamo standing out with 32.3%), with a majority of female authors (62%), and the most frequent topics were dentistry, COVID-19, and surgery, mainly focused on adolescents (10-18 years old).
Conclusions: Pediatric scientific production in the Student Medical Gazette shows a great thematic heterogeneity. The need to strengthen the methodological training of students and professors is recognized to ensure rigorous scientific production.
