Abstract

Diarrheal syndrome is one of the most common diseases that can occur in children and dehydration is the most important point to take into account. Worldwide, more than 1.5 billion events of this type occur each year in children under 5 years of age, representing 30% of the general consultation. Diarrhea is defined as the passing of stool of a decreased consistency, associated with an increase in frequency, typically at least 3 times in a 24-hour period. According to the length of time it can be divided into acute (less than 14 days), persistent (14-30 days) and chronic (more than 30 days).
