Physiologic assessment of the esophagus has evolved over the past 3 decades, accelerating in the past 15 years. Shortly before the 1990s, the first classification using conventional manometry emerged, where the first diagnoses such as nutcracker esophagus and ineffective esophageal motility began. Currently, manometry would not be the same without color topography, which greatly facilitates the creation of different consensus.
